Biography

Emanuele Belotti is an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies, Politecnico di Milano (Milan, Italy). Between 2018 and 2019, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Bartlett School of Planning, University College of London (London, UK), and then a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Architecture and Arts, Università IUAV di Venezia (Venice, Italy) until the end of 2021. He graduated with a degree in Sociology at the Università degli Studi di Milano (Milan, Italy) in 2013 and holds a PhD in Urban Studies (Cum Laude) that was jointly awarded in 2018 by the Gran Sasso Science Institute (L’Aquila, Italy) and Sant’Anna Scuola Universitaria Superiore (Pisa, Italy). His professional experience includes working in the non-profit sector, with multi-year work in homeless services from 2005 and 2013, as well as a background as an activist in the squatting and housing rights movements in the metropolitan region of Milan. He also has a second life as an underground rapper (aka Signor K), where he has collaborated with nationally and internationally renowned political rappers in Europe and beyond. His research interests focus on housing policy and the financialization of the built environment, urban informality and social movements, and hip-hop studies.
