Biography
Marina Sanders Paolinelli holds a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Architecture and Urbanism from Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. She is currently a PhD candidate in Architecture and Urbanism at NPGAU, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and guest doctoral student at Institute for Housing and Urban Research (IBF), Uppsala University, Sweden. She is a member of Observatório das Metrópoles since 2016 and a researcher at Cosmópolis since 2018. She is involved in housing activism as a member of the collective, Habite a Politica, since 2018 and is part of the social movement Brigadas Populares since 2021. She was involved in the update of the municipal housing legislation in Belo Horizonte, including participation in the formulation of a social rental housing program. She contributed to the Report on Housing Rights (2020) elaborated by the Belo Horizonte City Council Human Rights Commission and led by councilor Bella Gonçalves. Her research interests focus on housing rights, housing policies, housing informal markets, occupations, self-construction, popular organization, and popular economies.
