Biography

Melissa García-Lamarca is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow working on the CLIMATEJUSTHOME project at DIST, Polytechnic of Turin, and is a member of the Beyond Inhabitation Lab and associate member of the Barcelona Lab for Urban Environmental Justice and Sustainability. Her research untangles the lived experiences of housing financialisation and collective struggles towards housing justice, as well as the financial and real estate related dimensions of urban green inequalities. She was a housing rights researcher and activist in Barcelona (Spain) from 2013 to 2018; her book Non-Performing Loans, Non-Performing People (2022, University of Georgia Press) emerged from this engagement. Melissa is on the core editorial collective of the Radical Housing Journal, an open peer-reviewed journal launched in spring 2019 that publishes scholar-activist housing justice work from across the world.
