Action Center on Race and the Economy (ACRE)

San Antonio, TX, USA

Biography

Sofia is based in San Antonio, Texas, and works as a researcher at the Action Center on Race and the Economy, where she does strategic corporate research in support of organizing campaigns across the country. Through her research, Sofia works to expose how the financial sector extracts profit from communities of color through housing, and how the real estate sector uses its influence to prioritize housing as a commodity at the local and national level. These are the roots of our global housing crisis, and until we acknowledge the financial and real estate sector as the primary culprits and challenge them head on, the crisis will only get worse. Prior to her role at ACRE, Sofia worked at a community development intermediary, where she supported Latinx-serving asset-building non-profits across the country. Sofia has worked in city government, as a city planner, and prior to that she worked as a community organizer. Sofia holds a Master of City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BA from Swarthmore College.
